Answering Machine Detection(AMD)
Audio analysis at the start of a connected call that decides whether a human or a voicemail answered.
What it means in practice
AMD listens to the first few seconds of audio after a call connects and classifies it as human, machine, or fax. VICIdial's built-in AMD uses silence-duration and greeting-length heuristics that date back to Asterisk 1.2. Accuracy on the default algorithm runs 78–85% with a 15–25% false-positive rate, meaning a meaningful percentage of live humans get routed to voicemail drop and your agents never hear them.
In VICIPanel
VICIPanel exposes the AMD configuration block in plain English (false-positive rate on live calls, false-negative on voicemails) and lets you A/B test detection profiles side-by-side. If you need higher-accuracy AMD, a future module can route the detection through an external model while keeping VICIdial's call flow intact.
